Kosovo farmers are managing to provide half the amount of wheat they need while remaining dependent on imports. But representatives of the Association of Millers, have assured that Kosovo this year will not have a crisis for wheat. The president of the Kosovo Millers Association, Bashkim Zejnullahu says that there is enough wheat until July and then comes the wheat harvest season.
“Wheat for the mill is enough until next season, until July… Then comes the harvest season for wheat. This year, if it has a good yield, it has sown a little more than last year and we can have 50-60 percent fulfillment of market needs e Wheat imports from Serbia have started from Tuesday, May 4 Imi The price of wheat from Serbia is cheaper than it was from the Bulgarian market… “
The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari says that so far there are no difficulties for the import of wheat and flour.
“So far we have not encountered shortages for supplies, but we have had irregularities in the oil sector where we have found warehouses that have hidden the supply and these manipulations are what are bringing more panic for supply and are bringing more uncertainty. We are also operating to increase the state reserve to 10 million euros. And the reserve is no longer a matter of days, but a matter of months. So far we have provided enough, but even in July our wheat growers come and offer even more for the state reserve… ‘
Regarding prices, Minister Hajdari says that they are monitoring the market and will take measures for any irregularities. The Russian occupation of Ukraine has deepened its impact on international markets and such a crisis has hit Kosovo’s economy, bringing prices for all products.
