The Executive Director of the Open Society Foundation for Albania, Andi Dobrushi, on Tuesday spoke out against the new court map because, according to him, it jeopardizes the implementation of justice reform.
“There can be no justice FOR the citizen AWAY the citizen! The new map of the judiciary jeopardizes the implementation of justice reform”- Andi Dobrushi, Executive Director of the Open Society Foundation for Albania.
The Government of the Judiciary has decided to close 15 courts in the country on the grounds that they are not functional. Among them, five are appellate courts that meet in a single one in Tirana and 10 courts of first instance.
The High Judicial Council in cooperation with international partners on June 8 drafted this project, which was sent to the Ministry of Justice for consideration.
The HJC states that “The new Judicial Charter will serve to optimize human and financial resources, increase the efficiency of the courts, improve the speed of trial and access to justice for citizens.”
The High Judicial Council has identified the map as a very important key to solving the challenges of the judicial system, related to workload, delegations, access, cost and efficiency.
