Cleaning the well cost the life of 38-year-old Besnik Veliaj from the village of Lofkend in Mallkastëra, while his fellow villager Bledar Bregu was able to escape.
It is thought that the descent to a certain depth of the well where there is no air, caused the asphyxiation of two fellow villagers, who are suspected to have lost consciousness and then fell to the bottom of the well.
The sister of 33-year-old Bledar Bregu, shocked by the incident, says that this was one of the jobs they did to make a living.
The victim was still alive when rescue teams arrived at the scene to pull him out of the well, but after being transported to the regional hospital of Fier, 38-year-old Besnik Veliaj could not make it.
The firefighter who pulled the victim and the other 33-year-old man out of the well is already receiving medical treatment in the hospital.
