The Ukrainian military has announced today that it has launched several airstrikes on the island of Zmiinyi, also known as the island of snakes.
The Southern Operations Command of the Ukrainian Army said it had used targeted attacks using various means on the island.
The military operation is still ongoing and that keeping information secret was necessary until the end of the operation, the command added.
Zmiinyi Island was the scene of one of the steps of the war in Ukraine and is of strategic importance to both sides.
During the early days of the war, it was the site of a request by a Russian warship for Ukrainian defenders to surrender.
