The head of the regional administration Dmytro Zhyvytsky said that three evacuation corridors are scheduled to open in the northeastern region of Ukraine Sumy on Thursday.
On his official Telegram channel, he added that the proposed evacuation routes were set to start at 9 a.m. local time (02:00 ET), with civilians heading to Poltava, about 160 kilometers from central Ukraine.
Efforts to evacuate civilians from Sumy have intensified after at least 21 people were killed Tuesday in a Russian airstrike in the city.
Just yesterday, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, nearly 35,000 people were rescued through humanitarian corridors in Ukraine.
But local authorities in areas near Kiev said attempts to evacuate people to safer places on Wednesday failed.
