The largest aircraft in the world, Antonov AN-225 Mriya, was destroyed by a Russian attack on an airport near Kiev, according to the official account of the Ukrainian government on Twitter.
“Russia may have destroyed our ‘Mriya’,” said Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister.
“But they will never be able to destroy our dream of a strong, free and democratic European state.”
Mriya, which translates to “dream,” was sitting in her hangar at a Ukrainian air base in Hostomel, which had been the scene of intense fighting on Thursday when the Russian military took control of the air base.

Satellite imagery by Maxar Technologies shows significant damage to part of the hangar where the AN-225 is stored.
NASA’s Resource Management Fire Information System detected multiple fires at the airport, including the hangar where the aircraft is stored.cnn
