President Joe Biden will visit Waldens, Texas today, where a few days ago a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers.
This is the second time in a month that the president has visited a city hit by gun violence.
Earlier this month, Mr. Biden visited Buffalo, a city in New York, where a white supremacist opened fire on a supermarket, killing 10 African-Americans.
During his stay in Uvalde President Biden, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden, will meet with relatives of victims and survivors of the bloody attack. They are also expected to visit a memorial site for the victims and participate in the mass to be held today (Sunday) at the Catholic Church, Holy Heart.
On Saturday, dozens of people gathered in the city to mourn and pay tribute to the 21 people killed.
Authorities, meanwhile, are investigating the police response to the incident, mainly to shed light on the time it took police to confront the gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos.
The latter stayed at the school for about an hour before being killed by police.
Ten-year-old Samuel Salinas said that Salvador Ramos had entered his classroom and told them that “everyone will die”, and then started firing, as he said for the television network “ABC News”.
Another student, Daniel, told The Washington Post that he was in another class, not far from the perpetrator. Daniel said that the teacher had saved their lives by quickly closing the door with the lights off./ VOA
