At least 10 people lost their lives on Sunday after a tourist boat sank in the cold waters of northeastern Japan, while the search continues for 16 others missing.
In a statement, the Coast Guard added that the find had so far been identified as seven men and three women.
The cruise ship Kazu sent a signal on Saturday afternoon after it started getting water.
A search-and-rescue operation began immediately, but hopes quickly began to fade for the 26 people on board, due to cold temperatures in the region.
“It was clear that sea conditions were going to get worse, so I told them not to go. “But they did it anyway.” indicates the operator.
Local police and Japan Self-Defense Forces joined the rescue operation and the first four people from the boat were found early Sunday, while six others were pulled out in the following hours.
