The British government has imposed sanctions on 65 individuals and other companies in response to the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
The sanctions include Russian weapons maker Kronstadt as the maker of the Orion armed drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles, according to an update from the Ministry of Defense.
“These systems have been widely used in the Russian occupation of Ukraine,” the statement said, citing intelligence from British intelligence.
“Ukraine’s strong air defenses have almost certainly restricted flights with people beyond their front lines, so Russia will most likely be forced to use more drones in their place,” the statement said.
The sanctions are aimed at damaging Russia’s defense industrial complex and limiting its ability to replace any lost drones.
Many countries around the world have imposed harsh sanctions on Russia repeatedly since it launched its occupation of Ukraine.
