FIFA announces that the national teams that will participate in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, can gather 26 players, while previously only 23 players were allowed.
The same number was allowed in the Euro 2020 championship due to the pandemic, but the highest football body in the world has decided to continue this practice for the World Cup finals.
FIFA explains that another reason why this decision was made is the condensed calendar.
FIFA has also increased the number of players that can be recruited by teams in the qualifying round from 35 to 55. The World Cup starts on 15 November and closes on 18 December.
