South Korea is investigating seven deaths after people received doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the Yonhap news agency, health authorities will seek to establish a possible link between the cause of death and vaccination.
Three other people who received the AstraZeneca vaccine died on the spot the previous day.
According to data from the South Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, more than 225,800 people have been vaccinated since last week when the country launched its massive vaccination campaign.
So far a total of 1,578 cases of side effects have been reported, with an overwhelming majority, 1,558, who have mild symptoms.
“After immunization, six other suspected cases of anaphylactoid reaction have been reported, which have symptoms similar to anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction, increasing the total number of cases to 13.” says the Yonhap agency report, according to the Anadolu Agency.
Recently, South Korea reported 398 new cases of coronavirus, bringing to 91,638 the total number of confirmed cases with this virus.
“People’s movements are increasing after the Lunar New Year holidays. We are recording delays in new cases of the virus, but we can not rule out the possibility of infections growing againSaid Yoon Tae-ho, a senior health official.
The Pfizer vaccine is approved
Promoting the acceleration of its immunization apparatus, South Korea approved the Pfizer vaccine for use in the country.
After three independent evaluations, the Food and Drug Administration approved the two-dose regimen of the Pfizer vaccine, making it the second vaccine authorized in South Korea after that of Oxford / AstraZeneca.
Yonhap reports that two doses of Pfizer show over 95 percent efficacy, including in people between the ages of 16 and 17, as well as those over 65.
South Korea, a country of about 52 million people, has reached an agreement with Pfizer to supply vaccine doses to about 23 million people, whose shipments are expected to begin later this month.
The country has already received a shipment of Pfizer vaccines under the COVAX initiative, which have been administered to almost 4,000 people.
