Quantities of wheat and trowel will be exported to all Western Balkan countries, warned the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, a move that comes after a ban imposed days ago.
The announcement came after a meeting in Belgrade between Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic and Albanian Agriculture Minister Frida Krifca.
The press release says that the countries of the “Open Balkans” initiative, as well as other neighboring countries, “can count on Serbia as a reliable partner, at a time of great challenges in the food sector.”
Representatives of Serbia, Albania and northern Macedonia, part of the “Open Balkans” initiative, had planned to hold a new meeting in mid-March, but postponed it to May due to the alleged war. in Ukraine.
A day earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that Serbia would allow the export of contracted wheat to Albania as soon as possible, adding that the same would apply to others.
“Serbia has enough wheat, which means that it has enough for the countries of the region,” said Vucic. Serbia suspended wheat, flour, corn and oil exports on March 10th due to the market crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine.
