The head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, told the media that the majority is open to discussions with the opposition on the election of a new president, excluding the formula proposed by Enkelejd Alibeaj.
He reiterated that the majority will not propose names until the third round, while so far it has not received any proposal from the opposition.
“The first is that it is an issue that belongs to the opposition, about how they will approach this process, there is a proposal from the opposition to support a candidacy, there is a proposal to continue negotiations for them to come up with names of them, we see the opportunity to see within their names who meets our expectations. This is the issue I want to dwell on and say that we are for all possible ways except the formula proposed by Alibeaj 4: 2: 1 which is not negotiation. The hours, the following days will be intense days of talks with colleagues of the opposition to go with a candidate in the third round and I believe that what is clearer is that in the third round there will be no candidacy proposed with 20 signatures or more by PS“, Said Balla.
“Today we are waiting for concrete proposals, I have not received even one proposal, to be able to say that this proposal is from the opposition, there was a misunderstanding, I did not understand what I wanted to see, I have 6 days to go date 30, condition that solves one of my 4 names or not accepted no. “This time, in the third and third round, there will be no candidacy from the majority.”added Balla.
“With two colleagues we agreed to sit down by name, it was interrupted that the DP entered, today you saw the position, inside them there is a proposal of Mediu. “In case there is a proposal and they come up with a name is acceptable, we will assess the possibility whether the candidacy finds our support or not.”
The Conference of Presidents for the election of the new President met again this Tuesday, after the day before the second round of the process failed.
Majority negotiators gave the opposition the right to nominate candidates in the second and third rounds. Claiming that the majority suddenly changed its position, the Parliamentary Group led by Alibeaj swrish did not propose any name.
The round is left in the hands of the opposition again, but Alibeaj insists that the process be done according to the formula 4: 2: 1.
Balla, on the other hand, says that if he does not agree, he will invite other parliamentary groups to propose names, while the date for the next round was left on May 30th.
Recall that the first round of the presidential election was exhausted on May 16 without official candidates, as parliamentary groups in the Albanian Parliament did not submit candidacies.
According to the Constitution of Albania, the candidate for president is proposed to the Assembly by a group of not less than 20 deputies.
For the election of the president of the country, the Assembly holds up to five votes (rounds). The President is elected in the first, second or third ballot when a candidate receives not less than three-fifths of the votes (84 votes) of all members of the Assembly, while the Assembly of Albania has 140 deputies.
In the fourth and fifth ballot, the candidate who secures more than half of the votes of all members of the Assembly is elected president. The fifth ballot takes place when in the fourth ballot no candidate has secured the required majority of votes.
