At least 208 people have died and 52 others are missing in the Philippines after a powerful and deadly tornado hit the country.
Typhoon Rai is the strongest storm to hit the Philippines this year and one of the heaviest ever recorded.
Thousands of police, coast guards and firefighters are working on the ground to find the missing and are assisting with food and water.
The Red Cross in the Philippines has reported “complete destruction” in coastal areas after Typhoon Rai destroyed homes, hospitals and schools. Communication lines have been completely destroyed in some cities.
Typhoon Rai hit the Philippines on December 17 and the winds reached up to 195 kilometers per hour. Most of the victims died because they were hit by trees and walls that collapsed, drowned in floods or were trapped under rubble after landslides.
The death toll could have been higher, but thousands were evacuated shortly before the typhoon hit the Philippines.
