Shortly before he ended up in prison on suspicion of embezzling one million euros and abusing his position by privately hiring a consulting firm, instead of doing so through a tender procedure, the former Secretary General of the Macedonian government, Muhamed Zeqiri, had also signed a contract for temporary employment.
For this reason, the executive in the neighboring country will now have to pay 130 thousand euros to a private employment agency. The agreement signed by Zeqiri on March 11, does not specify how many people would be employed and for how long.
According to the announcement on the procurement portal, 6 companies have appeared but one of them has been selected, Spid. In November 2019, local media explain, the then Minister of Informatics and Administration, Damjan Mancevski, had announced the possibility of temporary employment through agencies due to the likelihood of abuse.
And yet, even after three years, says the local press, it has been seen that temporary employment, because of the way it is regulated, leaves room for abuse. Muhamed Zeqiri was elected Secretary General in November 2020.
Muhamed Zeqiri worked as a journalist before being elected MP in the early elections of 2016 in the list of the Social Democratic League of Macedonia, which at that time was led by Zoran Zaev.
